On a warm and sunny September day, RNA board members took a 2 ½ hour tour of the Columbia River from Camas all the way to the Port of Vancouver. Greg deBruler, Columbia Riverkeeper, and his wife, Cindy deBruler, Executive Director of Columbia Riverkeeper, brought their motor boat from White Salmon. Both groups discussed plans to work together regarding water quality issues on the Columbia River. We spent the time taking photographs, looking at the mills in Camas, Vancouver’s sewage treatment facility, several large ocean-going vessels, fishermen, various locations along the Port, and the Flushing Channel. Notes were taken about the depth of the river in various places, tidal influences, boat repair facilities on the water, tributaries that feed into the river, dilapidated boats, and various outfalls. There were also a few sightings of dead fish, as well as a floating debris. RNA has also contacted various other Riverkeeper groups within the Waterkeeper Alliance to learn about water quality issues throughout the country.
