On Saturday, March 12th, Rosemere had another successful neighborhood tree planting. Arnada, Carter Park, Hough, and Shumway neighborhoods were also involved in this tree planting and a total of 96 trees were planted in the five neighborhoods. Everyone met at the First United Methodist Church around 8 am to divide the trees up into smaller pickup loads, along with tools to aid in the planting process. There were great refreshments donated and served; those donating were: Bagels from Sunset Bagels, Donuts from Krispy Kreme, Coffee from Starbucks, and cookies and goodies from neighbors.
Thanks to the many very dedicated volunteers, crew members from Friends of Trees, neighborhood residents who planted trees on their property. The new trees will greatly enhance the livability and health of Rosemere and all the neighborhoods that participated. A huge thank you goes to Scott Kooistra, of St. Johns IGA, for planting four trees. It changes the landscape along this street which brings a wonderfully inspirational essence to the environment along Fort Vancouver Way.
It would be nice for neighbors to think about this bit of information for future plantings.
In the past year there has been three 40-50′ fir trees and one Cedar tree taken down in Rosemere. It is very disheartening to see these beautiful giants succumb to construction, fear of them falling, or just plain inconvenience to the homeowner. None of these trees were diseased. One property owner said they needed to take down their tree because they are putting an addition on their home, this is understandable. The good note is, once construction is finished, this family promises to plant more trees
